Dr. Terry Fried (68) started life in Washington D.C before moving to Vienna, Austria where his father worked for the IAEA and FAO (two UN organizations). He graduated from high school there before attending College at Harvard. He met his wife, Jane, at the Medical College of Virginia before coming to San Antonio in 1977. His wife did her residency in Pediatrics while he did his in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Nephrology. In 1983 Dr. Fried joined the faculty of UTHSCASA before going into private practice of Nephrology in 1991 (San Antonio Kidney Disease Center) while remaining on the Clinical Faculty at UTHSCASA . He retired in May 2018 with his wife who is a retired Pediatrician. Married for 44 years he enjoys reading, exercising and traveling. He and his wife have one son who just joined Columbia University as an Assistant Professor. He is a cardiologist with special training in Heart Failure.

Dr. Fried joined ThriveWell’s board in May of this year and will serve on the Research Committee. He learned about the organization after participating in the Masters Leadership Program and thought ThriveWell was a good fit given his close connection to our mission. Dr. Fried’s mother’s family has had a lot of Breast Cancer and his mother had Colon cancer. Two of his five brothers had Mantel Cell Lymphoma. One his brothers enrolled in one of the first studies comparing Stem Cell Transplant vs Bone Marrow Transplant for Mantel Cell. His youngest brother has colon cancer.
