The Alamo to Port Aransas Walk was conceived to bring public awareness on the health benefits of walking and to raise funds for the Thrivewell Cancer Foundation*, a leading Foundation dedicated to finding a cure for cancer by funding research, providing patient support and offering programs to improve the quality of life for patients and their families in San Antonio.
The walk will be split into two parts with the first part staring on Wednesday, May 1st at The Alamo and will stop on Thursday, May 9th in the area of Beeville, Texas. May 10th, 11th and 12th are set aside in observance of Mother’s Day weekend. The second part will start on Monday, May 13th and ending on Saturday, May 18th in Port Aransas, Texas at Roberts Point Park. The first day of walking will begin at 6:00 a.m. from The Alamo to S. Presa St. and continue to the intersection of S. Presa Street & US Hwy 181. This leg is approximately 11.25 miles long. The goal is to walk ten miles per day thereafter except for the final walk from Aransas Pass, TX to Port Aransas and that is seven miles. Walkers will return to the point we reached the day before and continue from there. A page on this website and a Facebook page will be available to track the walkers and postings will be made where the starting point is each day of walking. The distance of the walk is approximately 156 miles.
Tom Daniels, Alamo to Port Aransas Walk Founder says, “Running, walking, exercise and cancer has impacted my family for more than 50 years. There is no doubt that walking and ThriveWell Cancer Foundation changes lives. Walking benefits good health and the ThriveWell Cancer Foundation benefits cancer patients, cancer survivors and their families. So let’s go onward to Port Aransas and celebrate life. “
EVERYONE IS WELCOMEto join in for some (or all of the walk). Supporters and volunteers are welcome to come along at any point along the way.
