One of the most common fears among Breast Cancer Survivors is “cancer recurrence.” New drugs, diagnostic tools, and technology have greatly improved our chances for survival. But, surviving the fear of a cancer recurrence seldom leaves us.

Thriving with Metastatic Breast Cancer (MBC)

Living a happy and good quality of life with Metastatic Breast Cancer is now possible. I am an example of living with MBC, as opposed to dying from it.

I have been in treatment since 2013. And, I am responding 100% to treatments for this disease.

The Role of Treatment and Support

I give much credit for my response to the drug Herceptin, to my START Center Oncologist, Dr. Luis Rodriguez, and to many prayers. And I give much credit to ThriveWell Cancer Foundation’s DIVA AND DUDE Program.

Strategies for a Longer and Better Life:

Lifestyle and Attitude

Lifestyle modification can significantly decrease your risk of breast cancer recurrence, and it can increase your chance of survival. I have great encouragement and support from my family and friends. I regularly attend Support Groups and I continue to educate myself on new breast cancer research and treatment protocols.

I have been told I have a positive attitude and attitude has definitely contributed. It’s not always easy to stay positive, it’s a daily practice.

I try to focus on all the goodness that surrounds me.

Faith and Gratitude

My faith has been challenged. Jeremiah 29:11. I am blessed and thankful for each new day and this life I’ve been given.

Advice for the Newly Diagnosed

Advice I give to newly diagnosed cancer patients is to be your own best health advocate and listen to your body. Follow your Oncologist’s instructions. Take good care of yourself! The world needs you. Love, and be loved.

Your Daily “MEDS”

Take your daily “MEDS” – that’s Meditate, Exercise, Diet, and Sleep.
