Charitable Giving Through Your IRA

Did you know that you can give to ThriveWell Cancer Foundation directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA)? For many donors, giving through an IRA is one of the most tax-efficient ways to make a charitable gift while helping cancer patients in our community receive the support they need.

If you are age 70½ or older, the IRS allows you to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your traditional IRA directly to a qualified nonprofit organization like ThriveWell Cancer Foundation. When the gift is made this way, the amount transferred may be excluded from your taxable income, which can lower your overall tax burden while still counting toward your required minimum distribution (RMD). This can be especially helpful for individuals who must take annual withdrawals from their retirement accounts but would prefer to use those funds to make a meaningful impact.

Financial guidance sources such as Investopedia explain that qualified charitable distributions allow donors to give directly from their IRA to charity without the distribution being treated as taxable income, provided IRS rules are followed. Because tax laws can change and each situation is different, donors may also refer to the IRS website for current guidelines on charitable distributions from retirement accounts. However, you should always consult your tax advisor or financial professional to determine what is best for your individual circumstances.

When you give through your IRA to ThriveWell, your gift stays right here in our community. These funds help provide transportation to treatment, financial assistance, counseling, nutrition and wellness programs, and other critical services that allow cancer patients to focus on healing instead of worrying about how they will afford care.

Planned and retirement gifts also help ensure that ThriveWell can continue serving families for years to come, giving hope to those who need it most.

If you would like to make a charitable gift through your IRA, please speak with your financial advisor or estate planning professional, and contact us for the information needed to complete the transfer.

For more information, contact ThriveWell Cancer Foundation at 210-593-5949 or email
impact@thrivewell.org.

Your generosity today helps make sure no one in our community faces cancer alone.
