From Personal Loss to Lasting Legacy

When his sister Karen passed away from gastric cancer at just 47, ThriveWell Cancer Foundation Board Member, Steve Hays and his family transformed their grief into purpose by creating the Karen Franklin Gastric Cancer Memorial Fund.

Through a series of annual golf tournaments, they raised more than $400,000, fundraising efforts that became foundational to the financial support of ThriveWell at the ground level.

These early contributions provided the critical base that allowed the organization to launch, stabilize, and begin building the patient assistance and wellness programs that continue to serve thousands of individuals and families in San Antonio today.

Karen dreamed of seeing the shade of blue that represents cancer awareness become as familiar and widely recognized as the pink associated with breast cancer.

 

Steve has carried that vision forward through his steadfast generosity and commitment to ThriveWell’s mission.

As a donor and advocate, he continues to champion patient assistance, research, and wellness initiatives, ensuring that every person facing cancer has access to life-changing support.
